Lead a Group

Lead a Group

Help other men stay the course

Guild groups are peer-led. A group leader is not an instructor, lecturer, or spiritual director - he is simply a steady man who helps the group remain ordered, faithful, and on pace.

The work is simple, but it matters. A good leader protects the rhythm of the group so each man can do the serious work of reading, speaking, writing, and continuing to the end.

Leadership in The Guild is not about qaulifications - it's about faithfulness, steadiness, and service.

The Role

A Guild leader keeps the group ordered and moving

The program itself provides the curriculum, schedule, assignments, and expectations. The leader's task is to help the men honor that structure together.

Coordinate the meeting

Leaders handle ordinary logistics: time, place, communication, attendance, and helping the group keep a consistent weekly rhythm.

Guard the discussion

Each man is given equal opportunity to speak. The leader runs the timer, helps the group stay focused, charitable, and rooted in the assigned texts.

Encourage endurance

The leader helps the group remain committed over time, especially when schedules tighten and the work becomes less novel.

Who Should Lead

Strong and steady

Formal academic training is not required, this role simply calls for reliability, humility, order, and a willingness to serve. A good leader is:

01

Reliable

He shows up, communicates clearly, and can be counted on by the other men.

02

Orderly

He can manage time, basic logistics, and group dynamics without making himself the center.

03

Committed

He intends to complete the program and help the group continue through the full course.

04

Respectful

He is able to convey respect to the group and handle disagreements with grace and wisdom.

Support and Resources

Leaders are not left to improvise - before the program begins, group leaders receive practical support and clear expectations.

  • A Guild Leader Handbook as part of the leader package
  • Clear meeting guidelines
  • Defined expectations for group leadership
  • Ongoing support from Guild organizational leadership

The Fruit

Leading strengthens the leader too. Many leaders find that serving a group deepens their own commitment and forms habits of order, clarity, and responsibility.
